This year the student designers had to use Nokia’s latest handset the Supernova as an inspiration for their designs. Result: highly conceptual shapes in PVC, tafetta, nylon, structured necklines, hemlines, and sleeves, lots of black, neon, navy…it’s always intersting to see how a an inanimate object like a phone can inspire sometimes fluid, moving, shining, pretty clothes. Thumbs up to all the students for a job well done.

These 20 finalists go head to head tonight at the Nokia Young Fashion Designer Award 09, in the old Habitat Building, College Green. We’ll be blogging back later with the results and more pics from the catwalk!
Super fashion-blogger Susie Bubble is one of the judges on this year’s Nokia Young Fashion Designer Award panel. She’ll be joined by Brendan Mullane, senior menswear designer at Hermes, Louise Kennedy, and Godfrey Deeny, European Ed of Fashion Wire Daily on March 25th to judge the creations of twenty fashion design finalists.
