Dressing Up

Neon, dress, music, nu rave 4 Comments »

If there’s one good thing about the current music trends of nu rave, grime and anti folk, it’s the influence it’s having on high street fashion and street style.
Karen is a born Nu Raver with the bleached hair and neon jewelry, where as Sarah has the Lily look down to a T, but livens up the whole look with bold eye make up. Both love the gold trends in jewelry. We’re just glad to see so many stunning dresses out on the streets. Compared to our recent Opportunity frocks post, you can see how this trend can be worn in such contrasting ways! Is there anything more becoming of a lady than a nice dress? ;)

We caught Becki outside the Coláiste Dúlaigh Communications and Media graduate show. We love love love those high tops, currently invading your high street! Check out the DC brand for a Nu Rave influenced hightop in white and neon pink (if we see a pair walking, we’ll snap it!)

Jamie and Colin are a performance art duo called The Skinnitwinz. The neon shades are right on the fashion nose, but it was the amazing hair-dos – complete with curlers and hair extensions – that caught our eye.

Wayne Kenney is a Tattoo artist and musician, Saoirse Plutt studies art and Holly Shortall is a soon to be fashion design student. What stood out for us with these guys was Saoirse’s super cool belt. As you can see, the buckle is a Nintendo joypad from the 80s NES system!

All of these guys really stood out, as they try something different with fashion. We love the individuality of each person, and the little details that set them apart. Sinead Lynch caught our eye the minute she arrived in her denim ensemble. We weren’t suprised to hear her style icon – the fabulous Ms. Dita Von Teese.
