Another successful week of a fashion showcase has ended with a bang. The three-day event which was the Motorola Dublin Fashion Week 2007 was received by the media, buyers, stylists and industry insiders with great enthusiasm and once again DFW has proved to bring Ireland’s hottest designers to the fore. Two of which (Joanne Hynes  and Eilis Boyle) won a special bursary for their collections. The shows weren’t the only elements of the fashion festival this year, DFW also included talks by key fashion industry insiders on topics like how to start up your own fashion business as well as a designer showrooms set up at the Fitzwilliam hotel. Major thumbs up to founder and director of DFW Sonia Reynolds for another rocking season.

Motorola Dublin Fashion Week launched with theatrical flair this week, first with the showing of collections by Eilis Boyle, Helen James and Eileen Shields. There was a quick look at Autumn/Winter 2007 and a gorgeous sneak-preview of Spring/Summer 2008. Best of all was the dramatical display of Eileen Shield’s shoes as the models brought them out in silver, covered platters, revealed to a rapturous applause at the end of the runway.

The collective vibe between Eilis and Helen’s Spring/Summer was etherealness in the daintiest of outfits. Think celestial beings, garden nymphs or dinky fairies. Flowing fabrics in silk and candy-pink were worn loose, ruffles abounded and flower arrangements for hair evoked Shakespearean sprites or even Tinkerbell.

Here’s what’ll be hot n happening next spring. Fabrics: silk, cotton and linen, It piece: dress, Outerwear: cashmere wraps, shrugs, Colours: neutral, nude, beige, cream, blush. While Eileen Shield’s shoes came in the form of delectable ballet slippers.

A Midsummer Night’s Dream at MDFW

This was my favourite. Elfine-like, it calls to mind a modern-day version of As you like it or A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Or if there are no forests near you to run through in this airy, flowy frock, you can always wear it to a summer garden party.
